Day 14

Sat. July 31st, 2010

Eye culture results came back, and also tested positive for GBS. Performed a urinalysis, Blood test and CBC to make sure it wasn't running in the blood stream. Either way she was getting put on a different antibiotic, "AMP" to fight off the GBS. It was also good to have in her prior to her surgery.

I went home in the evening and slept in my bed for the 1st time in 2 1/2 weeks! It was amazing! It was so nice just to be able to do the boys' typical bed time routine with them, and tuck them in. Miss that so much!

Day 13

Friday July 30th, 2010

Cord appeared darker in color, like it was starting to dry up. Not near as red around skin area.

Lady May nursed awesome at her 9 am feeding! Stayed on for like 10 min. I was so excited and proud of her!

Test results came back from culture done on the cord site and came back testing positive for Group B Strep (GBS). Also did a culture on her right eye where it had a small amount of discharge from there.

Dr. Smith did a follow up check on the cord since we started the antibiotics and decided he was going to go ahead and remove it.

So...my baby girl is going to get scheduled for surgery. Hearing the news at first kind of hit me hard, knowing that they'll put her under completely to remove the cord. A little scary for a mommy to hear that about their baby:(
We're ready to have this thing out and taken care of, and good news is that he'll make her belly button look normal too. It would have probably made a prominent "outtie" if it wasn't for him fixing it!

Other than that, I remember this night was probably my most depressing night, feeling the way I did about the surgery, and no visitors at all that day, I felt pretty lonely...and sorry for myself! I know, pathetic, but I think that's what hospitals start doing to you, especially when you're alone at night in the evenings eating supper. Just not really all that comforting=-/ I was SO ready for Saturday when I was going to get to go home! Brock was too...I can safely say he was missin' me lots at this point at home!

Day 12

Good news: Off bili blanket for good! yay!

Not so good news: Maylin's umbilical cord started oozing more, skin around the cord started turning an irritating red too. Dr. Smith, the pediatric specialist came and examined the cord again, noting that it still looked like it was "being fed"...and said this thing "had 9 lives" and doesn't want to die!

Started round of IV antibiotics for her and keeping an eye on it.

That evening had a great time with Brandi and Kelly as they came up to visit, and we went out for dinner @ Chili's. What a great night of girl time and chats=) Those girls still crack me up like always!

Day 11

Started calling Maylin "Lady May" since everyone at the fair was talking about how great "Lady A" was...I joked that mine was a lot cuter=)

So anyways, fed her a bottle for her 6 am feeding, she was still pretty tired.
Headed home for the day to celebrate Brock's 30th and spent the day with the boys. After a day at the pool and eating @ Wings Etc. with friends, I headed back to FW to sleep.

No big changes today except her feedings were up'd to 30 cc's.

Day 10

Miss May took a little bit of a bottle again at her 3 pm feeding...love this picture!
The stickers on the bottle are orange and a letter "y". The orange is code for it being the 1st 2 weeks of my milk, since that has the most antibodies in it for her nutrition. The "Y" is code for it being my milk, in case there are lunatic mommy milk stealers in the NICU floor:) hey u never know!

Since she was in her isolette for a week, they switched her to a clean/germ free one:)

Day 9

Feedings were up'd to 25 cc's. Tried her 2nd bottle today, wasn't quite awake for it, but still did ok!

Had feeding tube taken from her mouth and put in her nose. Helps her for sucking a lot better, but man did that girl sneeze a TON! I felt so bad! But she's used to it now and doing good with it.

Since bili level started going back up, she was put on the bili blanket, which just went underneath her. But she was still able to be swaddled with a blankie, and no goggles, so that was fine! As long as my dear is comfortable, so am I:)

Brock's parents, Gary and Linda, and his Grandma Dorothy came to visit. We went out for lunch to Culver's....had my 1st "butter burger"...yum!

Here they are checking her out...this was Brock's dad's 1st time meeting her.

And here she is wrapped up still on the bili blanket...but lookin' cozy to me!

1 Week Old!!

Got to hold her for her 9 am feeding. Dr. Porter up'd her feedings to 25 cc's and wanted her to try nursing one time a day. She acted very interested! Pretty awesome!

Maylin also tried her 1st bottle today and did great! Drank 15 cc's then tube fed the other 8...she even burped for the first time! Good job girlie! I was one proud mommy today:)
